Original Sokos Hotel Tapiola Garden

The late afternoon light filtered through the tall windows as I checked into the Original Sokos Hotel Tapiola Garden. Espoo's Tapiola neighborhood felt like a planned green oasis, with its wide paths and modernist buildings blending into the trees. I had come for the sauna and pool, drawn by the hotel's spot right in the heart of it all.
After settling into my room, I headed down to the sauna department. The place opened at five that Monday, and I timed my visit just right. The air carried a fresh, clean scent, and I could hear the soft hum of the facilities coming to life.
Tapiola itself buzzed quietly outside. Nearby, the AINOA shopping center tempted with shops, but I stuck to the hotel's offerings. The Green Key label on the wall reminded me of their eco-friendly ways, which fit the garden city vibe.
Settling into the Steam
I changed in the wheelchair-accessible room, grabbing a towel from the stack. The sauna waited, warm and inviting, with wooden benches that felt smooth under my feet. Heat built up steadily as I sat there, letting the sweat start to form.
A few other guests joined, keeping to themselves in the quiet space. The hotel's setup included showers nearby, easy to rinse off between sessions. I lingered for a good while, feeling the tension from travel melt away.
Outside the sauna, the changing area led straight to the pool. It was part of the daily access, open until nine that evening. I appreciated how the hours fit around workdays, with evenings free for unwinding.
The Cool Plunge After
Stepping out, I made for the swimming pool. The water looked calm under the lights, and I eased in for a dip. It cooled me down fast after the heat, a sharp contrast that woke up every sense.
I swam a few laps, enjoying the space to myself for a bit. The pool area connected seamlessly to the sauna, making the cycle easy: heat up, cool down, repeat. With WiFi available even here, I could have checked messages, but I left my phone behind.
Later, I thought about the neighborhood's draws. Winter would bring ice skating on the nearby central pool, but in this season, the hotel's bike rentals tempted for a ride into Espoo's nature. I skipped that, content with the indoor ritual.
The restaurant downstairs called next, where I grabbed a bite. It rounded out the visit, tying the spa time to the hotel's homely feel.
