The drive out from Helsinki took about half an hour, winding through pine forests until the road opened up to the coast. I arrived at Palsta on a crisp autumn afternoon, the sea breeze carrying a hint of salt. The place felt secluded, with a large yard stretching down to the water, dotted with log cabins and the main house.

As a family-run spot, it was clear they catered mostly to groups, but they had opened up for my solo visit midweek. I parked near the guest house called Merihöyry and walked toward the sauna building, eager to unwind after the city bustle.

Stepping into the Heat

The sauna sat close to the shore, part of the facilities designed for company retreats. I changed in a simple room and entered the wood-paneled space, where the stove was already warming up. The heat built steadily, wrapping around me as I settled on the bench.

I stayed in for a good twenty minutes, letting the steam loosen my muscles. Outside, the yard offered plenty of space to cool off, with paths leading to outdoor games like tennis or mölkky, though I skipped those for a quiet moment by the trees.

Back inside for another round, I thought about how the setup suited team days, with room for a whole group to rotate through.

The Sea Plunge

After the second session, I headed straight for the home beach. The water access was right there, with a rowing boat tied up and SUP boards ready for use. The sea felt bracing against my heated skin, waves lapping gently as I waded in.

I floated for a bit, watching the horizon where the Baltic met the sky. Drying off on the shore, I noticed the restaurant area in the main house, where they serve meals for events. I grabbed a light snack there, simple Finnish fare that hit the spot after the chill.

The whole visit lasted a couple of hours, enough to recharge before driving back.

Lingering in the Yard

With the sun dipping low, I wandered the grounds one last time. The eight smaller cabins looked cozy, perfect for overnight stays during corporate getaways. Nature surrounded everything, from the forest edge to the open lawn, making it easy to forget the nearby city.

As a spot reserved for one group at a time, the privacy added to the calm. I left feeling refreshed, the sea air still in my lungs.
