Badstu og stamp hos Skårungen

The wind off the fjord carried a sharp chill as I pulled up to Skårungen in Kabelvåg. Northern Norway in late autumn meant short days and long shadows over the water. I had booked a session through their website, figuring an hour and a half would give me time to settle in. The place sat right by the edge, with the sea lapping close enough to hear from the parking area.
Inside, the setup felt straightforward. A new sauna building stood next to a hot tub, both oriented toward the water. I changed quickly and stepped out to the tub first, easing into the warm water while the cold air nipped at my shoulders.
Settling Into the Sauna's Glow
After a bit in the tub, I moved to the sauna. The room had windows from floor to ceiling, framing the fjord like a living painting. Gray waves rolled under a cloudy sky, and distant mountains cut sharp lines against the horizon. The heat built steadily, wood panels warming around me as I sat on the bench.
I stayed there for a while, letting the steam work its way in. No rush, just the quiet rhythm of heat and view. When I stepped out, the contrast hit: cool air off the water, sharpening everything.
Back in the tub, I noticed they had a license to serve drinks in the spa area. A friend could join, maybe share a beer while watching the light fade. On this visit, though, I kept it solo, soaking in the peace.
Easing Out as Dusk Fell
The session wrapped up after ninety minutes, as booked. I alternated between sauna and tub a couple more times, each cycle pulling me deeper into relaxation. The panoramic setup made it easy to lose track of time, with the fjord stretching out endlessly.
Drying off, I thought about how this spot could turn an evening with friends into something memorable. The email confirmation had come quickly when I reserved, and the phone number was handy for any questions. Kabelvåg's fishing heritage showed in the nearby boats and weathered docks, adding to the raw feel of the place.
Walking back to my car, the fjord looked darker, almost black under the dimming sky. I drove off with that satisfied ache in my muscles, the kind that lingers after a good heat.
