Sauna i havgapet på Røvær

The boat ride from Haugesund cut through the fjord waters, lasting about twenty-five minutes. I stepped off at Røvær, a small island dotted with houses and rocky shores. Wind swept across the open sea, carrying a salty chill that made me eager for warmth. I walked to the Røvær Kulturhotell, where the sauna sat nearby, ready for bookings any day of the year.
At the hotel desk, I arranged a private session for my group, since the space holds up to nine people. They offered towels and bathrobes for rent, but I had brought my own swimwear and a water bottle, as suggested. The changing room came with a toilet and shower, simple but clean, and I changed quickly before heading in.
Settling into the Heat
Inside the sauna, the wooden benches felt smooth under me. I was over eighteen, as required, and glad for the quiet of a private booking. The session ran for twenty-five minutes, time enough for the warmth to build steadily.
Steam rose gently, easing the tension from the boat trip. I sipped from my water bottle now and then, watching beads of sweat form. The air grew thick, pulling me into a calm rhythm of breathing. Outside sounds faded: just the faint lap of waves against the island rocks.
Halfway through, I stepped out briefly to the changing area, then returned for the final stretch. The heat wrapped around like a blanket, steady and unhurried.
The Outdoor Rinse
When the timer ended, I moved to the outdoor shower for a quick cool-down. Cold water hit my skin, sharp against the lingering heat. Nearby, bathing spots opened to the sea, so I took a dip in the havgap, the open gap to the ocean. The waves rolled in gently, salty and brisk.
I stood there for a moment, letting the fjord air dry me off. The island stretched out quiet, with views of distant hills and passing boats. It felt like a natural extension of the sauna ritual: heat inside, chill outside.
Back at the hotel, I asked about food and drinks to round out the visit. They handled requests by email, and an overnight stay seemed tempting for next time. I dressed and headed back to the dock, the boat schedule offering several returns that day.
