The salty breeze from the North Sea carried through the streets of Hornbæk as I made my way to Solgaarden. This quiet coastal town, with its sandy beaches and low dunes, felt like a good spot for a slow afternoon. I arrived at the garden gate, drawn by the promise of a sauna tucked among old trees and rhododendron bushes. The place had a calm air, like time had paused in this little oasis.

I paid 225 DKK for an 80-minute session and joined a small group. The sauna held space for about 15 or 16 people, though we were fewer that day. We settled in, ready for one of their themed gus experiences.

Warming Up with Aroma

Inside the analog sauna, the heat built steadily. The guide led us through a session focused on aroma therapy, blending scents that filled the air and eased the mind. It was part of their therapeutic approach, using the warmth to release tension and promote self-development.

We sat on wooden benches, sweat starting to bead as the temperature rose. The guide spoke softly about letting go of stress, drawing on heat to address deeper anxieties. I felt my muscles loosen, the combination of steam and subtle oils working together. Outside, the sea view peeked through the garden, adding to the sense of escape.

By the midpoint, the session shifted toward mindfulness. We practiced simple breathing, the heat amplifying each inhale. It reminded me of how these practices could boost overall well-being, both mental and physical.

The Sea Dip Break

After the first round of heat, we stepped out for a havdyp. The path led straight to the water's edge, where the cold sea waited. I plunged in, the chill shocking my skin after the sauna's warmth. It was invigorating, that quick contrast resetting everything.

Back in the garden, the old trees rustled in the wind, and the rhododendrons bloomed brightly. We returned to the sauna for more, this time incorporating elements of yin yoga. Stretches in the heat felt deeper, more releasing. The guide encouraged us to focus on personal growth, using the space for quiet reflection.

The group shared the quiet, no one rushing. I noticed how the therapy aimed at trauma release, though it stayed light and supportive.

Easing Out of the Session

As the 80 minutes wound down, we cooled off one last time. I lingered in the garden, watching the sea from afar. The whole experience left me refreshed, with a clearer head.

They offer clip cards for multiple visits, which could suit regulars drawn to the varied themes. Walking back through Hornbæk's dunes, I thought about returning for another go.
