Temple Sea Bath

The autumn wind carried a salty chill as I walked along the beach path to Temple Sea Bath. Klampenborg felt quiet that Thursday, with the Øresund Strait lapping nearby and a few locals strolling through the deer park. I had heard about this spot, a former men's changing room designed by Arne Jacobsen back in 1932, now turned into a modern bathhouse.
Inside, the space blended old lines with new comforts. I changed in the men's area, noting the separate rooms for women and men. The air held a faint warmth already, promising the saunas ahead.
Alternating the Saunas
I started in the infrared sauna, where the heat seeped in gently, easing the day's tension from my muscles. It was a quiet room, just me and the soft glow of the panels. After about twenty minutes, I moved to the Finnish sauna. There, the dry heat built more intensely, sweat beading on my skin as I sat on the wooden bench.
Between sessions, I stepped out to the outdoor showers. The cold water rinsed away the heat, sharp against the sea air. Foot showers were handy too, cleaning off any sand from the path. I repeated this a couple of times, letting the ninety-minute session unfold at its own pace.
The Havdyp Moment
What drew me here was the havdyp, the sea dip right off the shore. After warming up, I walked down to the water's edge. The Øresund felt brisk that afternoon, waves gentle but cold enough to jolt me awake. I plunged in, the salt water enveloping me for a quick immersion before heading back inside.
Back in the lounge, I relaxed with a drink from the café. The space had a calm vibe, with treatment rooms nearby though I skipped those this time. A yoga room sat empty, waiting for classes. As a non-member, the four hundred kroner felt fair for the experience, especially on aufguss days like Thursday and Sunday.
Lingering in the Lounge
The lounge area invited a bit more time after my session. I sat there, watching the light fade over the strait through the windows. A few others came and went, chatting softly. Toilets were clean and close by, everything practical without fuss.
Members pay just a hundred kroner, I learned, with the discount automatic on purchase. That might tempt me back. As I dressed and stepped out, the beach path felt familiar now, the wind a little less biting after the warmth inside.
