Sauna House

Sauna House - Image

The wind off the harbor carried a salty chill as I walked along Glückstadtsvej in Nordhavn. This part of Copenhagen feels new, with tall glass buildings and wide paths by the water. I had heard about Sauna House as a spot for quiet time, so I signed up for the membership. It costs 298 kroner a month and gives unlimited access from seven in the morning until ten at night.

On that gray afternoon, I stepped inside and felt the shift to warmth right away. The place is set up as a community club, focused on calm and being present. I changed in the simple locker area and headed to one of the three saunas they have.

Building the Heat

I picked the middle sauna, a wooden room that filled with steady warmth. The air grew heavy as I sat on the bench, letting the heat sink in. They offer saunagus sessions too, with a discount for members. I joined one that lasted about sixty minutes, paying 130 kroner for it.

The leader waved a towel to spread the hot air, and the room got intense but in a good way. Sweat started to bead on my skin. Around me, a few others sat quietly, each in their own thoughts. It was open every day of the week for these sessions, which made it easy to fit into my schedule.

After a while, the heat pushed me to step out. I needed something cooler next.

The Harbor Dip

Outside, the cold water area waited. First, I tried the cold plunge, a deep tub that shocked my body awake. The water bit into my skin, sharp and quick. Then I moved to the cold shower for a rinse.

What stood out was the havdyp, a dip right into the harbor. I walked down the steps into the sea, the waves lapping cold against me. It felt raw, connected to the water around Nordhavn. Back inside, I dried off and headed to the lounge.

The lounge had soft seats and a view of the harbor. I sat there, sipping water, feeling the calm settle in. Other members chatted softly or read books. It was a place to linger, not rush through.

Leaving with the Glow

As evening came, I gathered my things and stepped back into the cool air. The session left me relaxed, with that warm afterglow from the heat and cold mix. Nordhavn's modern edges blurred into the dusk as I walked away.

Sauna House draws you in with its simple setup: the saunas, the plunges, the lounge. It's a spot where you choose to slow down, day after day.
