Sofiebadet

The autumn chill hung in the air as I walked along the canals of Christianshavn. Copenhagen's streets felt quiet that Tuesday evening, with bikes parked against old brick walls and the faint smell of sea salt drifting from the water. I found Sofiebadet on Sofiegade, tucked into a spot that blended right into the neighborhood's cozy vibe.
Inside, the space opened up with a nod to old bathhouse style. I paid 350 DKK for the 60-minute session and stepped into the warmth. The air carried hints of lavender right away, pulling me in deeper.
When Thomas Waved the Towel
The sauna gus started with Thomas at the helm. He and Mette take turns on these Tuesday evenings, guiding folks through heat and scents with some soft music in the background. I settled on the wooden bench as the room filled with steam.
Thomas moved the air around, building the warmth slowly. Scents mixed in, nothing overpowering, just enough to ease the mind. The group was small, everyone quiet and focused on the ritual. It lasted the full hour, but time slipped by in that haze of heat.
Afterward, I felt the pull to cool down. The cold tub waited nearby, its water sharp and inviting.
The Steam and Scrub Break
In the steam bath, I tried the organic lavender and grape salt scrub. It sat there ready for use, a simple way to add to the session. The steam wrapped around me, thick and warm, while I worked the scrub over my skin. It left me feeling fresh, like shedding the day's weight.
From there, I moved to the hamam dome. The beautiful curved ceiling arched overhead, open as a place to rest. I lay back for a bit, letting my body settle. Snacks from the organic cafe caught my eye too. I grabbed a small bite, something light and fresh, to round out the evening.
Options like a Turkish kese or soap scrub were there to add on, but I kept it simple this time. The whole place had that easy flow, from heat to cool, rest to refresh.
Good to know
